MoMA NY publisher to keynote event at Vivid Ideas
A major international publisher will be joined by some of the country’s leading arts academics and curators to discuss ethics and the online image, in an event hosted by the Copyright Agency | Viscopy at Vivid Sydney in June.
Age of the Image is a half-day forum asking pressing questions about how we can better use technology to respect creators’ rights and strengthen the future of visual arts economies in Australia and around the world.
The event will be headlined by Christopher Hudson, Arts Publisher at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York. He will be joined by artist, writer and lecturer Oliver Watts, Director of 4A Centre for Contemporary Asian Art, Mikala Tai, Law Professor and Deputy Director of the Military Law and Ethics Research Unit, Dr Melissa de Zwart and independent creative producer at Art Processors Becky Sui Zhen Freeman. The event will be facilitated by independent arts writer, curator and critic, Owen Craven.
Voice of the Artist – Age of the Image
Art Gallery of NSW
Friday 10 June 2016, 8.30am – 1.00pm.
A part of the Vivid Ideas program, the Age of the Image is expected to attract creators and users of images in professional industries, such as marketers, advertisers, publishers and designers as well as avid social media users and bloggers.
The event represents the second phase of a broader initiative, Voice of the Artist, which is about exploring the extent to which visual artists use, understand and value copyright for the protection of their works online.
The first phase involved surveying more than 1,000 visual artists across Australia and New Zealand to find out the extent of their understanding of copyright issues in Australia and their attitudes towards what they believe to be fair reproduction of their images. A Voice of the Artist publication, featuring articles developed out of the survey findings, will be launched at the event.
Tickets for Voice of the Artist: Age of the Image, are on sale now. To find out more, go to the event website.
Vivid Sydney is the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas. Now in its eighth year, the event is owned, managed and produced by Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency. Visit vividsydney.com for more.
