Kath Fries is a Sydney-based artist who works with context-responsive processes. She is also a Viscopy board member, Chair of the John Fries Award committee and daughter of the late John Fries.
Kath is currently a doctoral candidate at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney. Her practice-led research into embodied engagements with materiality explores how our senses are entangled with our surroundings. She creates works for conventional gallery spaces and makes temporal installations in heritage and rural sites.
Recent projects include Governance Today at Old Government House Parramatta (2017), Future Stratigraphy at Sydney College of the Arts Galleries (2106), Silence Awareness Existence at Arteles Creative Centre in Finland (2015), Permeate at Hawkesbury Regional Gallery (2015), Decant at Fairfield Museum (2014), Making Ground at Blue Mountains Cultural Centre (2013), Mapping Memory at Willoughby Incinerator Art Space (2013).
